Satahtenikonarak-FASD-HIV/AIDS-Healthy Sexuality

KSCS Prevention based initiative whose primary goals are to provide information and education to individuals and community organizations, by providing trainings and support regarding fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD), healthy sexuality, HIV/AIDS, and suicide awareness.

Traditional Services

Shakotisnien:nens - Support Counselors One on one counseling and individual counseling is offered to clients whereby a service plan is developed to offer support to various individual issues. Some areas:

  • stress management
  • depression
  • anxiety
  • self esteem etc.

Support can be given through traditional approaches as well as more contemporary delivery methods Sweats Individual sweats for one’s issues. Provided by traditional staff. Each individual is assessed and an individual service plan is developed with the individual and worker together. Traditional Cultural Teachings The traditional component of the Family and Wellness Center provides a variety of support services to enhance and or to heal the individual person, using both natural and spiritual realms of Iroquois teachings Crisis Intervention To support the individual with support through listening, talking, and sharing immediate issues. We are able to respond to crisis immediately in the community Couple and Family Counseling To provide counseling services to couples and their families. To provide a safe and comfortable environment for Kahnawa’kehró:non.

Adult and Elders Services Counsellor

The Adults and Elders’ Services Counsellor offers information and liaison services for:

  • income security programs
  • disabilities
  • civil status
  • estate planning and management

and provides Commissioner of Oaths and other services as required.

Independent Living Center

The Independent Living Center (ILC) is a residential program for community members living with mental health issues.

The ILC focus is to foster and maintain independence and quality of life for Kahnawa’kehró:non living with mental health issues

The ILC provides a structured and supportive environment that promotes wellness and social integration.

Nobody’s Perfect Program

This is a six to eight week program is for parents with children 0-6 years old.

A series of booklets are provided for parents.

This program offers interactive and experiential learning exercise, and fun activities

Onkwanen:ra Our Gang

Onkwanèn:ra – Our Gang

The “Onkwanèn:ra” After School Program, is a community based social/life skills program for Kahnawakehro:non children between the ages of 6-12 years (Grades 1-6). The program focuses on group inclusion, self-awareness, understanding relationships, social skills, culture awareness and the world around us. The program incorporates Kanien’keha:ka values and the cultural aspects of respect, while group members receive the information about healthy lifestyles (mental, physical, social and spiritual well-being).

We offer a variety of activities aimed towards helping the children explore their thoughts and feelings in a safe and relaxed atmosphere. Activities include lessons, guest speakers, arts and crafts, role playing, games and field trips.

The group hours are 3:00pm - 4:45pm Monday to Thursday throughout the school year beginning in October.

KA’NÓN:WE/WHERE:  Onkwanèn:ra Programming is held at the KSCS Whitehouse, located across from Mohawk Council. 

AKENHNHÀ:KE/SUMMER: Onkwanèn:ra offers summer programming during the months of July/August.  Registration is held in May.

Teen Group

Teen Group is a new program for youth aged 12-17 years that meets twice a week on Monday and Wednesday nights from 6:00 P.M.– 8:30 P.M. at the Whitehouse. The purpose of the Teen Group is to empower youth aged 12 - 17. Group members need to be in high school (grades 7 – 11).

The member led group will give youth the opportunity to set direction that allows them to work together to enhance their skills and knowledge of culture, leadership and being better global citizens while giving back to the community. The members will work on a safe environment that will guide them to make healthier decisions, grow an an individual and achieve personal goals.
