Prescription Drug Abuse.

Did you know that last year, over 80,000 Canadian teenagers used prescription drugs to get high, even though they can be very dangerous?
 
When used properly, prescription drugs can help. But, there are many dangerous and unpredictable side effects associated with abusing prescription drugs including addiction, overdose and death.Teens are especially vulnerable because their bodies and minds are still developing. It can damage a them for life.
 
 

Connecting Horizons

Connecting Horizons group would like to inform the community that they commissioned a community needs assessment examining ways in which to better support individuals with special needs and their families living in Kahnawake.

Calendar events added

Upcoming events have been added to the calendar. Click on the calendar icon on the top left for information about the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday closure and information about the Super Dads/Super Kids program (beginning this month) and the Mental Health First Aid training coming up in November.

Food Recall (Updated)

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has issued an updated food recall warning to include Marc Angelo brand Smoked Prosciutto Speck due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Consumers should not consume the recalled product. For more information, please go to the CFIA website.

Holiday closure

Information about the Labour Day closure has been added to the calendar. Please consult the calendar for information on how to access emergency services during the holiday. KSCS Will resume normal work hours on Tuesday, September 2nd.

Kahnawake – August 23, 2014, since the second community meeting held on July 16, 2014 to determining the future direction of community drama programming, Kahnawake Shakotiia'takehnhas Community Services (KSCS) has had two meetings with the Turtle Island Theatre Volunteer Fundraising Committee (TITVFC). These meetings have allowed for the re-building of a working relationship between both parties and are developing into a memorandum of understanding.

Tehontatró:ris July Session

Please note there is a special July session of Tehontatró:ris. The session will be held on Thursday, July 31 and will be on emotional freedom techniques with Kelly Roughton from the Association for the Advancement of Meridian Energy Techniques. Kahnawake Shakotiia’takehnhas Community Services will be hosting a second community meeting to discuss the future direction of KSCS Drama in Kahnawake.  All interested Kahnawa’keró:non are invited and encouraged to participate in these discussions.

The June newsletter has been uploaded

The June 2014 newsletter has been uploaded. You can access it under the Resources menu item at the top. The issue includes articles on the popular Where the Creek Runs Clearer youth group and the Super Dads/Super Kids program. We also have articles celebrating MAD Group's and Our Gang's anniversaries, some advice on safe tanning, using traditional values to encourage healthy values and safer environments, and an article on the First Nations Regional Adult Education Center.

Copies of the newsletter are also available downstairs in the lobby of the Services Building.
