The Movie in the Park event is part of the Violence Prevention Month awareness activities for the month of July. Last year Kahnawà:ke Shakotiia’takéhnhas Community Services (KSCS) renewed the month long campaign to raise awareness on violence prevention and to promote family activities in order to encourage healthy relationships.

The cycle of violence can have a devastating effect on self, family and community. The development of one’s self-esteem, self-image, value, mental health and behaviors can be affected when exposed to trauma. The impact of trauma and negative behaviors may be lessened with education and awareness, and a supportive environment. Education and awareness is an important step in creating change and adopting positive attitudes and behaviors. For this reason, we would like to encourage organizations and individuals to assist us in the Spirit of Wellness to spread the message of healthy relationships, communication, conflict resolution and non-violence.
