CANADIAN STUDY EXAMINING FIRST NATIONS CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES

Kahnawake – February 28, 2017, Kahnawake Shakotiia’takehnhas Community Services (KSCS) wishes to inform the community that Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) are currently conducting an engagement study to ensure Canada can meet the needs of First Nations Children and Families living on reserve in the future.

INAC has already begun discussions with some First Nations service providers and are going to be traveling to various regions throughout Canada to hear from partners and stakeholders.

This engagement is intended to be inclusive by targeting First Nations youth, families, First Nations leadership, First Nations agencies/service providers including front-line workers, national and regional Indigenous organizations, child welfare advocates and First Nations communities.

KSCS feels it important to let the community know that Kahnawake has not played a role in the development or implementation of this study and that Kahnawake will not have any ownership of the data collected from our community. KSCS does support efforts that look into ways to improve First Nations Child and Family services delivered to our peoples.
