Kahnawake – May 26, 2020, Kahnawake Shakotiia’takehnhas Community Services wishes to inform the community that it has prepared the White House next to Mohawk Council for elders wishing to get relief from the heat.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for our area for the next two or three days. The highs are expected to reach between 30 and 34 degree Celsius today, Wednesday and possibly Thursday. Corresponding humidex values will range from 35 to 39.
The white house doors will be available for elders from 9:00am – 7:00 pm until the heat wave breaks. Elders will be required to wear a mask and maintain the physical distancing measures. Masks will be provided if you do not have one.
Elders who are going to access the white house are asked to call 450-632-6880 and ask to speak with the intake worker who will screen for COVID symptom and ensure staff at the white house know to expect you.
