Heat Shelter for Elders

Kahnawake – June 4, 2021, Kahnawake Shakotiia’takehnhas Community Services wishes to inform the community that it has prepared the Whitehouse next to Mohawk Council of Kahnawake for elders wishing to get relief from the heat.

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning that will last to early next week. The highs are expected to reach between 30 and 34 Degree Celsius. The temperatures combined with humidity will give humidex values between 35 and 40 degrees.

The Whitehouse will be available for elders from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM until the heatwave breaks. Elders will be required to wear a mask and maintain the physical distancing measures. Masks will be provided upon arrival.

Elders who are going to access the Whitehouse during the work week are asked to call reception at 450-632-6880. On the weekend, elders are to call 438-227-5520 and a worker will screen for COVID-19 symptoms and ensure staff at the Whitehouse know to expect you.
