OVERDOSES AND DEATHS LINKED TO STREET-DRUG USE - Public Health Update

Kahnawake, June 5, 2014 – Kahnawake Shakotiia’takehnhas Community Services is forwarding the Montreal Health Agencies warning concerning overdoses linked to street-drug use in and around Montreal.  There have been 28 cases including 15 deaths by severe poisoning linked to a drug cocktail.

Health officials are warning drug users who use heroin, cocaine and other illegal drugs to be vigilant for any changes in the appearance of the recreational drugs they take and to call emergency services if they encounter any unusual reactions or symptoms.

“This drug cocktail can make the drug much stronger, cause a person to stop breathing, and lead to death”, says Richard Massé, director of public health.

Doctors and nurses are asked to report to the Public Health Agency cases of overdose who require assisted ventilation, resuscitation, hospitalization or who have died.
