Reclaiming Your Language

Presenters: Ieronhienha:wi Tatum McComber, facilitator/coordinator Iakwahwatsiratátie Language Nest

Objectives:

Ieronhienha:wi will be sharing her background; how she learned Kanien’kéha and what helped her to become a speaker. She’ll discuss:

  • Learning Kanien’kéha in today’s reality; her language revitalization efforts and how she encourages others to speak.
  • Challenges and strategies as a second language learner, to maintain the language at home and in everyday life.
  • She’ll give strategies that participants can take home and incorporate.

Managing Health and Social Needs for Trans Youth

Presenters: Dr. Shuvo Ghosh, head, Gender Variance Program Meraki Health Centre and Montreal Children's Hospital, assistant professor of Pediatrics, McGill University Health Centre and Maria Scolack, M Ed - special educator and clinical coordinator Gender Variance Program Meraki Health Centre

Objectives:

  1. Having a good handle on definitions of terminology within the Trans youth community
  2. Understanding differences between the different ways that Trans youth choose to present themselves
  3.  Creating an affirmative and welcoming approach to gender differences in community environments​
  4. ​Learning about resources and contacts for professionals, parents, and youth to gain more information about gender issues
  5. Familiarizing ourselves with the major challenges for Trans youth, their families, and the community at large​
