Multigenerational Trauma and the Impacts on Attachment and Bonding

A FREE workshop open to all Kahnawa'kehró:non

Objectives

Facilitate an understanding of "attachment"

Understand how different kinds of interactions with children can create different types of attachment paterns in children

Gain a better understanding of the emotional impacts that historical trauma and colonization has had on Indigenous people

Discuss and review some of the developmental impacts of intergenerational trauma (exposure to domestic violence, addiction, neglect, separation) on children

Discuss the importance of, and strategies for, developing strong bonds and attachments with children

Prescription for Addiction

A compelling 40 minute documentary about the benefits and the health and social risks of prescription opiate use. The documentary's goal is to promote the healthy use of opiates and enhance community awareness of the issues surrounding opiate misuse and dependency.

The Time for Yoga is Now

Objectives:

An interactive workshop defining yoga. Participants will learn about the types of yoga, the benefits of yoga, and the various components of traditional yoga vs. modern day yoga. Participants are invited to wear loose comfortable clothing.

Kahnawake Shakotiia’takehnhas Community Services (KSCS) in conjunction with Sacred Roots Production ® will present an eighty-five (85) minute culturally adapted production of Colleen Murphy’s award winning play “Pig Girl”.

The play draws on some facts of the 2010 serial killer Robert Pickton’s horrific actions. The production will be used as a vehicle to bring awareness about violence against women to Kahnawa’kehró:non and will be used as an opportunity to outreach within the community.

After the play KSCS will host an open dialogue with the audience to discuss issues of violence against women. As well promote the programs and services available to Kahnawa’kehró:non. KSCS will have skilled individuals who can assist anyone who may become upset emotionally.

The event is free and open to everyone 16 year of age and over. There will be two (2) shows, Friday and Saturday August 26 & 27 at the Knights of Columbus Hall Kahnawake. Doors open at 5:00PM show time 6:00PM sharp for both evenings.

Our culture is filled with amazing stories of acts of courage, heroism, villainy, and cosmic events that shape our very being. Our culture is also filled with guidance, power and knowledge for all of creation…but sometimes, we still have questions. So let’s answer those questions so we can reignite the flame within us!

What’s going on: A five day cultural workshop on the Creation Story, midwinter ceremonies, the four sacred ceremonies, the clan system, and Kaianere'ko: wa (Great Law)

  • Who’s invited: Youth between 12–17 years of age
  • Who’s presenting: Condoled Sub-Chief Aronhiaies Herne (Tehanakarine) and guests
  • When is it:: August 15th-19th
  • What time does it start: 10:00 AM—3:00 PM with three evenings (6:00 PM— 8:00 PM)
  • Location: Family Wellness Center (Near Mohawk Trail Longhouse)

Awesome daily lunches will be provided as well as incentives.
