Registration for Summer Programs

Registration for KSCS' summer programs will begin on Monday, April 24, 2017. Registration forms for the summer Drama Day Camp will be available for one week only at the KSCS main office, from Monday April 24 to Friday, April 28, 2017. There will be two day camp sessions to choose from. The cost is $150.00 per session. This covers the cost of trip admission, bus fees, T-shirt, and sunblock. Ottawa, April 12, 2017 - The food recall warning issued on April 4, 2017 has been updated to include additional product information. This additional information was identified during the Canadian Food Inspection Agency's (CFIA) food safety investigation.

Recall details Ottawa, March 11, 2017 - New Era Nutrition Inc.is recalling SoLo GI brand energy bars from the marketplace due to possible E. coli O157:H7 contamination. Consumers should not consume the recalled products described below. The following products have been sold nationally as well as through Internet sales.

 

CANADIAN STUDY EXAMINING FIRST NATIONS CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES

Kahnawake – February 28, 2017, Kahnawake Shakotiia’takehnhas Community Services (KSCS) wishes to inform the community that Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) are currently conducting an engagement study to ensure Canada can meet the needs of First Nations Children and Families living on reserve in the future.

INAC has already begun discussions with some First Nations service providers and are going to be traveling to various regions throughout Canada to hear from partners and stakeholders.

Multigenerational Trauma and the Impacts on Attachment and Bonding Training

Objectives: - Review the concept of ‘Attachment’
- Understand how experiencing trauma at different developmental stages can create different obstacles for current relationships
- Identify practical tools to handle difficult behaviour
- Discuss and review idea’s related to “Trauma Informed Care”
- Discuss the importance of, and strategies for, developing strong bonds and attachments with children
- Explore and discuss issues around trauma and attachment, especially as it relates to the children in your care

Food Recall - Updated

Ottawa, February 8, 2017 - The food recall warning issued on February 3, 2017 has been updated to include additional products. This additional information was identified during the Canadian Food Inspection Agency's (CFIA) food safety investigation.

Loblaw Companies Limited is recalling PC Organics brand baby food pouches from the marketplace because they may permit the growth of Clostridium botulinum. A manufacturing error resulted in excess water in the product, which under certain circumstances could support the growth of Clostridium Botulinum and pose a health risk to consumers. Consumers should not consume the recalled products described in the link below.

KSCS Voice Mail System Not Working

The KSCS main building has no VOICE MAIL SYSTEM.  Please bear with us for at the next little while until we get our new phone system. 

The phone will ring and ring until one of the receptionists can answer it. If a call is transferred to an employee’s desk, the phone will ring continuously until they answer. If the call is not answered before 10-12 rings, the call will transfer back to reception where we can take written messages.

Holiday Closure

Tehontatró:ris

The November Tehontatró:ris event has been updated. This month's event, part of the Spirit of Wellness, is all about cybersecurity and how to keep you and your family safe on the Internet. Ethical hacker Terry Cutler will be the guest speaker. Don't forget to RSVP as spaces are limited.

Spirit of Wellness 2016

The Spirit of Wellness 2016 campaign kicks off on Tuesday, November 1, 2016. The opening will be held that the Kahnawake Sports Center with a tobacco burning at 3:30 followed by a free public skating event, courtesy of the Kahnawake Schools Diabetes Prevention Project, from 4:00 – 5:00 PM.

Reminder: Pig Girl performance

KSCS is sponsoring two performances of the award-winning play Pig Girl by Colleen Murphy. The play will be performed tonight and tomorrow at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Doors open at 5:00 PM, the play begins at 6:00 PM sharp. The event is free but space is limited.

Caution: strong language and implied violence, the play is recommended for ages 16+ accompanied by an adult.
