KSCS RESUMES CONTROL OF INDEPENDENT LIVING CENTER

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: (Kahnawake – April 29, 2021) - As of March 21, 2021,

Kahnawake Shakotiia’takehnhas Community Services (KSCS) and the Kateri Memorial Hospital Center (KMHC) have officially completed the transfer of the clinical and authoritative management of Independent Living Center (ILC) back to KSCS.

Kateri Food Basket and KSCS Announce Changes to Delivery Dates

For Immediate Release (Kahnawake April 19, 2021) The Orville Standup Memorial Kateri Food Basket and Kahnawà:ke Shakotiia’takéhnhas Community Services (KSCS) Emergency Food Basket announced today that starting on Friday May 7, 2021, food basket deliveries will be changing to a monthly delivery schedule for recipients. Emergency food basket recipients can expect a written notice and phone call to inform them of the new schedule.

We understand that the issues people face can be emotional, challenging, and at times painful to address. Our staff are highly trained to provide support and take action in these scenarios, treating our clients with the utmost respect. On behalf of all KSCS staff, we ask for this same respect and courtesy in return.

Public Service Announcement

Kahnawake – March 18, 2021 - Kahnawake Shakotiia’takehnhas Community Services
(KSCS) wishes to inform the community that due to the large volume of requests for mental
health services, we are currently operating on a wait list system. We have implemented a
triage system whereby the individuals on the wait list receive weekly check-ins to assess and
prioritize their current situation. In addition, they are encouraged to reach out to us, 24 hrs. per 
day if their situation changes.

Sexual Abuse Resources

Kahnawake Shakotiia’takehnhas Community Services wishes to let the community know that we are here for you. If you would like to speak with someone who will listen in a non-judgmental way call 450-632-6880 and ask to speak with the Intake Worker. If you would like to speak with a counsellor directly you may do so Monday through Friday 5:00 pm to 8:00pm by calling Let's Talk Kahnawake Tewakaratónnion at 514-235-9607. You can also contact services outside Kahnawake by reviewing the attached resource.

Heat Wave Warning

Environment Canada has issued a High Heat Warning for this weekend. The temperatures combined with humidity will give humidex values between 38 to 42 degrees.
Kahnawake Shakotiia'takehnhas Community Services has prepared the White House next to the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake to receive elders wishing to fine relief from the heat.
The center will be available for elders from 10:00am – 5:00 pm until the heat wave breaks. Elders will be required to wear a mask and maintain the physical distancing measures. Masks will be provided if you do not have one.

KSCS STAFF RECOGNIZED FOR UNPRECEDENTED DEDICATION

Kahnawake – June 24, 2020, Kahnawake Shakotiia’takehnhas Community Services wishes to inform the community that its offices will be closed on Friday June 26, 2020 to show appreciation to staff for their hard work and dedication to the community throughout these COVID-19 times.

We also want to assure our community that all essential and emergency services will be maintained on this day as we are still under emergency measures.
