High Heat Relief for Elders at the Whitehouse

Kahnawake – June 18, 2020, Kahnawake Shakotiia’takehnhas Community Services wishes to inform the community that it has prepared the White House next to Mohawk Council of Kahnawake for elders wishing to get relief from the heat.

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning that will last to early next week. The highs are expected to reach between 30 and 34 Degree Celsius. The temperatures combined with humidity will give humidex values between 35 and 40 degrees.

ACCESS TO EMERGENCY FOOD

Kahnawake – March 24, 2020 - Kahnawake Shakotiia’takehnhas Community Services wishes to inform the community that we are opening an intake process for access to emergency food for elders in the community and those who have limited financial resources.

ESSENTIAL SERVICES AT KSCS

(Kahnawake – March 23, 2020) Due to the COVID-19 global health pandemic, Kahnawake Shakotiia’takehnhas Community Services has entered into essential services. There will be limited workers in the building, however, this does not change the delivery of services. ALL essential psychosocial services are available.

Staying Safe in Abusive Relationships During Covid-19

Survivors may be forced to stay in the home or in close proximity with their abusers during the COVID-19 isolation measures, which can create a circumstance where their safety is compromised. Survivors may need to alter their safety plans, if it is safe to do so. Remember that survivors are not alone and they may reach out to a number of support resources if in crisis or just need to talk, such as:

CORINA-19 Update

(Kahnawake – March 19, 2020) In an effort to comply with the Kahnawake COVID-19 Task Force Kahnawake Shakotiia’takehnhas Community Services (KSCS) are mandating all non-essential services staff to work from home.

All non-essential KSCS staff working from home are doing so to support the Essential Support Services and workers. In addition, all non-essential services staff can be called upon to help ensure other community Essential Services areas have the human resources needs met if required.

Restricted Acces to the Elders Lodge and Independen Living Services

Kahnawake Shakotiia’takehnhas Community Services would like to inform the community that the Elders Lodge & Independent Living Center cannot accept deliveries or donations of any kind (including food form resturants) for the duration of the pandemic period.
These interim measures are supported by the COVID-19 Task Force to further protect the residents at these locations. We appreciate the communities good will and appreciate the offers however safety is paramount over all else.

KSCS SUSPEND ALL BUT ESSENTIAL SERVICES FOR THE NEXT 2 WEEKS

(Kahnawake – March 13, 2020) In an effort to support community emergency response efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19 virus, Kahnawake Shakotiia’takehnhas Community Services (KSCS) are suspending all non-essential services for the next 2 weeks effective immediately.

The decision to go to essential services was made in consultation with Kahnawake’s Public Safety Division. Clients of KSCS who already have appointments booked with a counsellor are encouraged to contact them before coming to our offices.
